Native to India and Sri Lanka, this essential oil is distilled from the roots of a tall grass. The grass itself is used to make woven matting. The name itself is derived from a Tamil word meaning “root that is dug up,” or “hatched up.” This oil is widely used in skin-care, massage, and aromatherapy, and is used as a base-note in perfumery.
